Mile Marker Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026 ยท Published by The News Bakery LLC

Mile Marker ("the app") is a mileage and tax-deduction log for people who drive for work. This policy explains what happens to your trips, your location and anything else you enter.

What the app stores

The app stores what it records and what you enter: your trips (dates, times, miles, start and end places, purpose, client or platform, notes), the location points of trips you record, your vehicles and odometer readings, saved places, tolls and parking, photos you add of receipts or your dashboard, and your settings. All of it is saved only on your device, in the app's private storage.

Location

The app uses your device's location only while a trip you started is running: from the moment you tap Start until the trip stops. It also takes a single location reading when you tap "Add current location" to save a place. It never uses location at any other time, never asks for "Always" or background location permission, and never tracks you when no trip is running.

Location points are used on your device to measure the miles and draw a route sketch. They never leave your device. The app does not use map services, map tiles, address lookups (geocoding) or any other online service, so no location is ever sent to us, to a map company or to anyone else. Place names come only from places you name yourself, matched on the device.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive or store any of your data. The app has no account, no sign-in, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and it contains no third-party code that sends data anywhere.

Cloud backups

The app keeps its data, including location history, out of iCloud Backup and Android's automatic cloud backup, so your trips are not copied to a cloud account by the app. To move to a new phone, you make a backup file yourself (see below).

When information leaves your device

Only when you choose to share it. A Mileage Log PDF, a CSV export or a backup file is made on your device and goes only where you send it with your phone's share sheet, for example to your accountant by email, to a printer or to your own files. What happens to it after that is up to you and the service you choose.

Backup files

A backup is one file you save yourself. It contains your trips, vehicles, places, tolls and parking, settings and photos, and, unless you turn it off, the location points of your trips. Keep it somewhere safe. Restoring a backup replaces what is on the phone.

Notifications

Reminders and the trip notification are made by the app on your device. Nothing is sent from a server.

In-app purchase

If you buy the one-time unlock, the purchase is handled by the App Store or Google Play under their own privacy policies. We receive no personal information about you from the purchase.

App lock

If you turn on app lock, Face ID, Touch ID, your fingerprint or your passcode is checked by your device's operating system. The app never sees or stores any biometric data.

Children

The app is meant for adults who drive for work. It is not directed to children and collects no information from anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete any trip, place, vehicle or photo in the app, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device. Backup files you saved yourself are not affected; delete them where you saved them.

Not tax advice

The app is a log. Keep your own records. It is not tax advice. Ask a tax professional about your situation.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
